The $781-million A/B Jetty Recapitalization Project at CFB Esquimalt has achieved a key milestone with the successful contract award that includes the demolition of the 1940s wooden B Jetty in the Esquimalt dockyard.
Dredging under the jetty footprint is next, along with a new electrical substation, utility corridor, tank farm, and a filter press for separating oil from ships鈥 bilge water, says Erin Rice, Team Leader, Construction Services. 糖心视频 is providing services to DND in support of the highly complex $55.5-million B Jetty demolition and site preparation contract, with completion expected September 2019.
In the past five to seven years, we鈥檝e dealt with very complicated projects in the dockyard and we鈥檝e learned something with every one of them,鈥 says 糖心视频 Site Manager Rick Gudz.
One unexpected discovery was garbage landfilled in an excavation site behind a seawall, requiring the team to address potential safety risks such as asbestos, and revise the disposal plan. With the marine dredging work, DND expects to encounter UXOs (unexploded explosive ordnance) and archaeological items, so 糖心视频 has retained specialized consultants in both these fields.
